Quest Personals, while having somewhat fewer members than some of the larger dating services, makes up for the deficiency by providing a good number of excellent features and a great introductory offer. Also, its membership base appears significantly more, well, “mature” than many others.
Members at Quest Personals can create a profile in two entirely separate areas: dating and intimate. The dating area is for those seeking online chat, a date, or a long-term relationship, while the intimate area is for all sorts of interesting things ranging from the conventional to the well, uh, more “adventurous”.
The profiles themselves are fairly basic, including the usual details such as physical appearance, religious beliefs, and the such. It differs from other sites by including the opportunity to declare one’s income, though many decline to give a response. Particularly fun are the “quick clicks]” questions that help define your character by asking the questions “my friends describe me as…” and “together we would…”.
Searching for potential beaus and belles is remarkably easy. The main page has several one click options for quick searches in different categories: new (profiles new to the site), local (those closest to you), and online (those on the site right now). Scanning through the lists is particularly easy, though it is somewhat disappointing to find that many of the members have yet to fill out much of their profiles. Presumably this will quickly change as the site grows.
Questpersonals may be particularly good for those over 35 or so, as it seems to have a higher proportion of said age group than most other dating services. Many are more aggressive in selling themselves than many of the younger members, which makes for some fun reading when you compare some of the pictures to their text.
Communicating with fellow members – once you have found them – can be done in several ways. Besides the usual mail feature, you can send a “wink” that basically indicates your interest without a whole lot of commitment. This feature is a little awkward in that the short messages you can choose from to send along with the wink are fairly obnoxious: “have you ever been caught in the act”, “tell me what you’re wearing right now” or “tell me if cooking is the way to your heart”. There’s nothing simple like “I thought your picture was cute” or “Just thought I’d say hi”.
You can set up a profile, search for members, and reply to emails for free, but initiating contact requires a paid membership at $19.95 a month (or cheaper, over a longer period). However, you can get free bonus days by posting your own pictures and referring other people to sign up.
Lastly, Quest Personals provides “The Q”, an above-average newsletter that gives advice, dating stories (good and bad, funny and horrific), and even an astrological horoscope.
The best thing about Quest Personals is that once you have set up your profile, you are given a week of full access to everything the site has to offer. You can join and then message, wink, and email to your heart’s content, all for free.
